Country Winter

In the winter did you hear your mother holler
"Get out of Bed!"
You hate to get up but slowly uncover your head.
When you crawl out of bed in the darkness and the gloom,
You found the temperature was really freezing in the bedroom.
Then you really got a chill stepping on frost upon the floor,
Where the wind had blown the moisture through the crack below
the door.
You woke up thirsty thought a drink would be so nice,
But you find the water bucket covered with a thick layer of ice.
Your mother has just got a fire started in the old wood cook stove,
And you keep wishing that it had really snowed.
You keep wishing it was God's will,
And He had made it icy so the school bus
couldn't climb the hill.
You couldn't see out the icy window so you open up the door,
And a deep snow bank tumbled on the kitchen floor.
When your mother got the house warm
it was your special day.
The school bus could not get up the hill
and you went out to play.
