Arnold "Steve" Stevenson - known as Bro. Loutie, was a one of a kind person. He served his country with honor, he served his community, he served his fellow comrades and he served the Lord with all his heart, mind and soul.

His love, other than the Lord, was serving veterans in "Veterans Helping Veterans & Others, Inc. He was there in the beginning as Trustee signing papers at the lawyer's office to incorporate the organization and to get its 501c3 states. He stood on the corner collecting donations from passing vehicles,
he stood in the back of a truck collecting food at the Spring Jubilee, he worked in the food pantry, he attended the board meetings to make his voice heard and he was involved in everything going on. He loved sitting in the back of the pickup truck in the parade and throwing out candy to the children and giving toys to the veteran’s children and grand- children during the Annual Lance Cpl. Jonathan E. Etterling Memorial Christmas Banquet.

He was a proud WWII Army Veteran who served his country with honor. He served his fellow comrades up until his passing to his new home with the Lord. While he was with us, he served not only in the Army of the United States for our freedom, but he also served in the Army of the Lord fighting for freedom from this life, and we can say for both Armey’s, Freedom Isn't Free.

He was strong minded, willing, tough and loving man. When he set his mind to do something, he did it. If someone didn't pick him up for church, he would get his cane and start walking until someone picked him up. He also had a strong faith in God. He was rushed to the hospital from Heart Land of Portsmouth one time; the doctors thought he was leaving us. They called in his family to say their good buys. Being his CEO, I went out to the hospital to be with the family and have prayer with Bro. Loutie. After visiting and having prayer with him, he said with a loud shout, glory . . . Before I left he said to me as he rubbed his chin, "its food pantry day on such a date", I said yes. He said, "I will be there." Sure enough, he was there.

After his death bed shout of Glory, he bounced back and not only worked the food pantry, he visited the nursing homes with us to give out gifts and have prayer with the veterans. We are going to miss Bro. Loutie very much, he has gone home, but he will live on in our hearts and our minds. We will always remember him for all the good things he did for our country, our community and for Veterans Helping Veterans & Others, Inc. Farewell to a comrade, a friend and a brother in the Lord.
